Kendrick adds that “viewers were faced with a new kind of film” and points out that “Psycho was a completely unexpected movie” (“Disturbing New Pathways” 3). The influence of Hitchcock's Psycho on horror is certainly well documented: Fabris, Helbig, and Rußegger, for example, place it among their thirty best horror films of all time (188), and its director among the twenty most important ones (187).
